Department was established in year 1965 by the efforts of first professor and head of department Dr.Chatar Singh Anand and was established in the ground floor western extension of the J A hospital building. Dr. Sri Ram Agrawal become first postgraduate student of the Department and did his diploma in the Otorhinolaryngology (DLO) later on he also become first MS student of the department. Since then the department has gained lot of reputation and organised 2 National and 2 state level conferences. Department also organised many workshops and continuing medical education programmes. World famous eminent personalities including Dr. Hiranandani (Father of ENT in India) and other foreign faculties including Dr. Stanbach visited the department as faculties in the workshop and CME.
Department is equipped with a temporal bone lab; audiology section with latest ALPS AC 40 computerised Audiometer, Impedance audiometer, BERA machine; Karl Kaps operating microscope & OPD unit. Department has acquired FESS set. Already all the major surgeries including the Endoscopic and micro Ear surgeries are being performed in the Department. About 3 MS and 3 DLO students join department each year. Till date about 100 MS and 60 DLO candidates has passed from the Department and this included the present faculties who have the pleasure of being the alumni of this institute.
Prof S. R. Agrawal also introduced a GOLD medal for the best candidate in MS examination in 1994 in the name of his father Late M. L. Agrawal. The medal was first awarded to Dr. Abhay Gupta in 1994. Also department is proud to present about 70 papers in national and international journals of repute. The department has 2 posts for assistant professor, one for associate and one for professor.
